In September 2020, Generation Connect was awarded a National Institute of Health Small Business Innovation Research grant. As part of the initial exploration and discovery process, the team conducted focus groups to gain insight into the existing processes, needs, and goals for the use of the Generation Connect app by home care agencies and informal care partners.
I conducted a series of focus groups with 4 key stakeholder groups — family members of people living with dementia, professional caregivers of people living with dementia, home care agency owners, and corporate executives from national home care agencies. Following the focus group sessions, I collaborated with researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to analyze the transcripts. The scientific analysis was published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.
I also developed a business analysis and Executive Summary of key themes, challenges, lessons learned, and action items. The Executive Summary was shared with our product team and industry partners. These insights helped to guide commercialization efforts of the platform.
